[COPY] MY HOMETOWN
GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA
The Reedy River, once a symbol of industrial might, had long
been a muddy, sludge-filled reminder of the past. In the days
when Greenville was known as the Textile Center of the
World, the river bore the brunt of progress. Textile mills
lined its banks, dumping dyes and poisonous liquids into its
waters, turning it into a stinking, putrid body of water. The
overgrown banks became a refuge for hobos, who found
solace in the shadows, cooling their beer and smoking their
weed by a natural spring inside a small cave.
As time marched on, so did the city of Greenville. It grew
from a small town into a burgeoning metropolitan area, and
with this growth came a new awareness of ecology. People
began to understand the vital connections between plants,
animals, and the world around them. Laws were enacted,
and a collective effort to beautify the river began.
Landscapers descended upon the Reedy River, clearing away
the brush, weeds, and trashy trees that had choked its banks.
Grass, flowers, and other natural embellishments began to
thrive, transforming the once desolate area into a vibrant
oasis. City planners worked tirelessly, improving the area
with steps leading from the main street above to the
refreshed banks and the magnificent waterfall below.
Further development turned the Reedy River into the
emerald jewel of Greenville’s growing tourist attractions. An
Italian-designed suspension bridge was constructed,
spanning the river and offering breathtaking views of the
natural waterfalls. The city of Greenville earned its place in
many of the world’s tourist books, urging people to visit this
Southern town known for its hospitality.
Main Street underwent a transformation of its own. Closed
storefronts were reopened, new facades were added, and the
streets teemed with life. Restaurants offering menus from
around the world lined the streets, adding another feather to
Greenville’s cap.
For eighty years, I have witnessed the revitalization of this
city. From the days of industrial grime to the present, where
the Reedy River flows clear and beautiful, Greenville, South
Carolina, has become a place I proudly call home.

I’ve been there. This is a beautiful and apt description.
Very nice! So nice when things get better instead of worse! I feel the same way about my hometown!
